Who gives a hoot?
OUR STUDYBarred Owls are typically found in large forests far from human development- but they are all over southeastern cities! Studying why they occur in developed areas may shed light on how to increase wildlife diversity within our neighborhoods. Our study is using GPS transmitters to track owls in order to learn about their habitat preferences in the Clemson region of South Carolina. Our work with homeowners creates a unique outreach opportunity to connect the public to nature. We also advise homeowners on methods to improve wildlife habitat on their property.
Simply put- Barred Owls are mascots of urban wildlife diversity! |
DONATE TODAYTransmitters are expensive: A single tag costs $1,450. To obtain solid scientific results, we'd like to increase the number of birds tagged in our study. If you love owls and would like to know more about what attracts them to our backyards, please consider donating to help us buy more tags. As a grant funded student-led project, every dollar goes a long way! Donations are tax-deductible, and substantial donors will be invited to participate in our work and even meet the owls we study!
Checks can be mailed to Clemson by writing "Avian Bird Research" in the check memo, or by card online via the Clemson Foundation. |
